Continuous casting, also called strand casting, is the process whereby molten metal is solidified into a "semifinished" billet, bloom, or slab for subsequent rolling in the finishing mills. Prior to the introduction of continuous casting in the s, steel was poured into stationary molds to form then, "continuous casting" has evolved to achieve improved yield, quality. The continuous casting process for steel is shown in Fig. 1 (second frame) and the close-up of the upper mold region is shown in Fig. this process, molten steel flows from a ladle, through a tundish into the mold. The tundish holds enough metal to provide a continuous flow to the mold, even during an exchange of ladles, which are supplied periodically from the steelmaking process. Continuous casting is the procedure of the successive casting for solidification of the steel, which contains several cooling processes along the caster to coagulate the molten : Seppo Louhenkilpi.

Continuous casting of steel. London: Institute of Materials, Steel - Steel - Continuous casting: About 55 percent of the world’s liquid steel production is solidified in continuous casting processes, the most widely used of which feeds liquid steel continuously into a short, water-cooled vertical copper mold and, at the same time, continuously withdraws the frozen shell, including the liquid steel it contains. Continuous steel casting units of the radial and curved types, in which the incompletely hardened stock passes into the horizontal section, make possible a significant increase in the casting rate for stock of large cross section, since the cutting section may then be located at a sufficiently great distance from the crystallizer (30–35 m).

Continuous Casting of Steel - CRC Press Book Continuous Casting of Steel 1st Edition. W.R. Irving. Hardback $ CRC Press Published September 1, Reference - Pages ISBN - CAT# K Select Format: Quantity: was $ USD $ It describes the process of the steel continuous casting. The article provides a description of the design and layout of a steelmaking facility for continuous casting of steel. It reviews the trends in the steel industry, such as near-net shape casting, the use of tundish metallurgy, and pouring stream protection. The control technology of continuous casting of steel not only lies in the fine process model, but also depends on the reasonable production plan. The process of continuous casting should be considered as the linking process between steelmaking process and rolling by: 5.
